So the governing body is a tribal oligarchy (rotational elected officials).  Do they have a monetary system in place?  Or is it just a barter and trade?  Do they have any developed technology and/or magic? or just primitive magic that is druidic only?

Not really elected, they're usually chosen by the members of the council that are already in place, though they do take into account input from the clan that the member represents. Within the clan, it's strictly barter. They don't need anything more, since they work towards the betterment of the community as a whole. Between clans, barter is more formalized (a duck is equal to a good pot is equal to 3 hours labor, etc.) As for their dealings with the outside world, I wanted to leave that open to input from other folks.

I intentionally left a blank on what folks lived like inside the tunnels. These people do not allow outsiders in and their expatriates don't share much about their past in the Kaesyr homeland. I thought that the opening could possibly lead into a good adventure in the future. Along those lines, though, these people present a barbaric face to the world, but their society, while having some strange superstitions, is advanced enough to pack a large amount of people into caves, feed them all, keep them healthy and generally happy. Basically, what I'm saying is that they have a fairly advanced society hiding beneath the surface, with magic and tech that support a large society in a cramped space.

Although the information could be rather useful to the DM.  Also a player that chooses to play this race might like to know as well.

I like the proposed race. From what I've read I would have Common, Kaesyrn and one of the bonus languages (player or DM's choice as to which one) as Automatic Languages due to the fact of their society placing such intense value on them being able to communicate without allowing their own language to be learned by others. A suggestion of mine would be for us to use this proposed race, if not agreed upon as is, as a starting platform and adjusting details from what we have been given here. Example; the clans have a ruling council that appoints a young leader, why appoint one at all or why have it limited to only 2 seasons?
Thank you Pollette for your offered racial idea and you don't need to answer that unless we continue in a fashion that I have suggested here. Smiley

If I wouldn't allow them tweaked at all, I would have said something at the time that I posted them. I believe that I've added a lot of info. I have a history in mind that I'd be glad to write up and post, but I need the world to have a history first. Their society is closed, but they don't exist in a vaccum. As for the the limit, I addressed this in the DM's note at the bottom, and the reason for having one at all is simply that, in times of war, the council is willing to admit that one head is better than 17. Arbitrary number, I haven't yet created the clans. The inspiration for and work done on that race was all yesterday evening.

Not bad for my first race ever, eh? Cheesy

Completely agreed, and I invite everyone to help me fill in the blanks.

I am stating here and now that I have final say on changes made to the Kaesyr. I'm not doing this out of any sense of territory, etc., but folks have a tendency to argue and argue in these threads, and I'd kinda like to speed the process along.

Well, since no one seems to have any contributions to make to the race, I will write up a history as soon as the world has a history.

Does anyone have experience with city maps and underground maps? I'd like to collaborate to draw out their lands a bit.

You mentioned port-wine stain birthmarks, but is this a mottling or just localized birthmark?

Just localized, and a side effect of their insular culture (read limited breeding pool).

Since Icebound is going to be 4E and I don't see any possible way to use the race considering the 4E GSL, I'm gonna go ahead and officially withdraw the Kaesyr so that they can get some use elsewhere.

I just wish WotC hadn't gone so draconian with the GSL. I would have liked to see them used in Icebound.

Icebound wont be going 4th edition, it's going to stay 3.5.

I've been waiting to see if someone else would speak up, but since they haven't....

*applauds* Bravo, Arrif, your race is killer! Would you be willing to fill them out somewhat so folks have more data to go off of?

Things have just been a little busy around here with the 4E no 4E gotta get layout done rush. We have been reading it, I guess I was just the only one with time to respond.

Let me know if you want any help refining them. I make a handy sounding board.

My apologies. It's considered 'submitted', but I haven't yet tried to sync it up with the existing material. In looking at it, it may fufill the 'native race' role we were looking at, though bits of the backstory would have to change to reflect this.

Also... erm.. an easier name? Smiley

i think the name is cool.

i have the rest of the sub on me. just that noone said anything so i thought this would be a dead issue.
please inform of any chancges to be made BEFORE hand so we can hammer out the details. thanks

Don't worry too much. With everything that's been happening, Icebound has been considerably back-burnered for quite a while. I'm actually going through today just to get all the updates from March together in the gazetter, and a lot of that is fairly basic, generic stuff. Alas.

As for the name, I've been using a more 'slavic' reference for everything, in order to get a consistant feel through everything. I know you like the name, but it's very 'modern scholar' in a lot of ways, and doesn't fit right to me. Perhaps if you could find a simpler, harsher variant to work with?
